  • All Steadfast offerings coach you on how to engage your story; no prior experience is needed! All you need is a desire to grow and a commitment to persevere amidst disruption. Exploring your story will not be a walk in the park. Often things of the heart get messier before there is breakthrough or healing.

  • Everyone has a story deserving of care. But if you feel you don’t have a story, an exploratory Story Group is a great place to start. You'll take a deep look at how you’ve come to be who you are in the world—which is undoubtedly storied—and journey with others who can offer you fresh perspective into your own story.

  • Therapy is provided by a licensed mental health professional with training in a variety of healing modalities. Storywork, on the other hand, is a healing practice led by a trained facilitator who is often not a licensed mental health professional, but a trained lay counselor. While storywork is not therapy, it can be therapeutic in the sense of being a practice for self-discovery and healing.

Furthermore, while therapy is often ongoing, storywork is more intensive and focused.

  • The Steadfast approach to storywork has been greatly influenced by the teachings of Adam Young, Dan Allender, and other Allender Center staff, as well as more general trauma resources such as The Body Keeps the Score and Trauma and Recovery.

The Place We Find Ourselves podcast is an impactful resource to start your storywork journey, along with the writings of Dan Allender, including To Be Told, Healing the Wounded Heart, and Redeeming Heartache.

  • Yes! We’d love to talk with you about what hosting a story group (led by a Steadfast facilitator) in a weekly or retreat format could look like. Please reach out to discuss more, mentioning your ideal time frame, potential number of participants, and any specific questions. | CONTACT FOR DETAILS

  • Anyone is welcome to engage in Steadfast offerings, regardless of religious background. In individual storywork sessions, you choose how much you want to incorporate faith or spirituality. Steadfast story groups, however, are rooted in a Christian perspective of healing (based on implications of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection). Someone who is not a Christian is welcome to participate in a story group if they feel curious or merely comfortable respecting the faith-oriented teaching component of story groups.
